Far from the first canopy tour in Costa Rica, but something of a pioneer in recognizing that some people were more interested in adrenaline than exploration. SkyTrek built an industrial-strength, high-angle, breakneck-speed bona fide thrill ride and people love it. The canopy is simply there to add a little perspective so you can tell how high you are or how fast you’re going, and it adds a nice background to the photographs as well. After the rush wears off you can visit one of the “Walks” (priced separately $17 adults, $13 students, $7 children and residents, see links below) that use trails, suspension bridges and observation platforms for a more tranquil introduction to the ecology and natives of the forest canopy. The reptile terariums and serpentarium (also priced separately $8 adults, $6 students, $3 children and residents) has floor to ceiling plate glass separating you from the critters, educational displays and it's indoors if you get caught in the rain. The "Sky" group (the company is actually called Valle Monteverde S.A.) has made an industry of putting tourists in the treetops with the SkyWalk at the Monteverde location, and the SkyTram, SkyTrek & Walk Arenal at the Arenal Reserve down the slope.
